S.O.S.
S.O.S. is a series of six self-portraits, in and around my previous home in Brussels. The series is my protest against the growing individualization of society, which celebrates independence and self-care (instead of care) while looking down on asking for help and showing vulnerability. In 2022, during a difficult period of loss, loneliness, and sadness, I decided to resist this: I revealed my feelings and asked my surroundings for help.
The self-portraits reflect that period, taken in the dark, intimate setting of my home. Each photograph captures a specific emotion, using a long exposure that records Morse code. With these light signals, I carefully transmit my emotions to my environment, while at the same time, these signals literally bring light into the darkness.
S.O.S. was part of the duo exhibition BARSTEN in zinnema, anderlecht in september-october 2024
